Reverb 10 – Day 7

December 7
Prompt: Community. Where have you discovered community, online or otherwise, in 2010? What community would you like to join, create or more deeply connect with in 2011?

In 2010, there were a lot of different places I found community in. The main place I found community was online, through either Twitter or through various blogs such as Very Smart Brothas, Three Ways to Take It, or Single Black Male. Some of the people that I am friends with now are all because of a Modern Day Matchmaker Event that was up on UStream that we all happened to watch at the same time. I’m thankful every day that I decided to join that chat, as some of the people I found there are people I talk to every day. We’ve really formed our own community within all of these blogs, and it’s expanded greatly since the night of that chat. In 2011, there are a couple of communities I want to become more involved in. I first want to start to deal with things that more positively affect the state of education in our country. I know that there are like-minded people out there that have the same wants and desires I do; I just need to be able to find them. I also want to become part of a community of writers. Yes, I blog, and yes I have some people that read my blog, but I want to be edified by other writers. Participating in some sort of a club that promoted writing, or that had workshops for me to attend would be a great place for me to really come back into my craft and begin to really enjoy it again. I also need to get back into the actual community and volunteer more. I’ve done a couple of walks, but I need to give some more of my time in some way. I’m not sure exactly how I want to do that, but I’m sure something will come across the internet or into my email box that will strike a chord in me and make me want to give of myself and of my time. I’m hoping that next year, I can carve the time necessary out of my schedule in order to become more involved in things that give me a sense of community.
